Potential homeowners continue to face issues of home affordability. Legislative proposals being considered in the US Senate that seek to reform our housing mortgage market will make it more difficult for low and middle-income families to pursue the American dream of homeownership.
The proposal known as the Johnson-Crapo bill fails to include affordable housing goals and leaves little room for small lending institutions to provide for smaller markets that are often times ignored by big banks. Just as the housing market starts to bounce back, this reform would place unnecessary obstacles on purchasing a home without guaranteeing that the mortgage industry doesn’t fall into the hands of “too-big-to-fail” banks.
