Sen. Richard Shelby isn’t new to Banking Committee leadership, but he would face a crucial ticking clock if he returns as chairman of the panel next year.
The Alabama Republican has just two years left under party rules to head the committee, raising questions about where he would focus his energies and what he could get done in that timeframe. He’ll also have to contend with the looming presidential elections in 2016, further shortening his prospective legislative calendar.
